Meet Aew, Our Project Management Officer

Aew has been our PMO officer at ATA IT for just over a year. In this Q&A article she explains her role and responsibilities, plus her insights into the skills and qualities that are essential for success in this field.

What is the primary role of a PMO officer?

Most of my day involves working with project team leads and technical leads, and I’m mainly responsible for reporting and managing surveys, plus use my skillset for all projects at ATA IT and our partners. This normally involves collecting data, analyzing and delivering reports to executive and management level, plus support and maintenance for internal company applications and the ATA IT website.

How did you end up working in this role?

Actually I knew about ATA IT from my friends and I also followed the company on several social media channels. The environment looked nice and there are many benefits to support employees. I applied for several positions in the past and finally I got offered a position. I have experience in IT applications and services, and digital marketing with a global company before and I think my experience from those jobs helped me to get this opportunity.

What are some typical challenges faced by a PMO officer in their day-to-day work?

We are a team of people from different countries, so a typical challenge is working with different personalities, languages, and culture. This means learning, adapting and supporting each other whenever possible.

How does a PMO officer collaborate with senior management to align project objectives with organizational goals?

A PMO officer has a great chance to work closely with the management team, delivering important information likes resources, man-days, workloads, planning, and project overviews to make sure our projects are progressing well. If some projects have issues, we can immediately collaborate with the team to find solutions and improvements.

What advice would you give someone who would like to develop a career in this role?

There are so many key skills needed in this role, but I would try to focus on project management skills, IT knowledge, good communication especially for people from other countries, be interested in learning new technologies, and also be a team player.
